Summer forage crops provide a high quality feed source throughout the summer months when normal pasture quality and production is declining. A summer crop will produce large volumes of feed and is relatively inexpensive to establish. It also helps with weed eradication prior to the sowing of a permanent pasture. SUMMER FEAST SORGHUM Graham’s Seeds Summer Feast is a hybrid forage sorghum that produces a large quantity of green feed, hay and silage. It is easily managed and has rapid regrowth with excellent dry matter yields. MILLET Definition – millet is an extremely fast growing summer grass that produces high volumes of feed and is suitable for multiple grazings. It is often planted with summer brassicas or herbs & clovers to increase the quality of the feed source. An example of millets stocked by Grahams Seeds: Shirhoe, Japanese. TURNIPS, RAPES & HYBRID BRASSICAS Definition- these are commonly grown during the summer months but can also be used throughout other times of the year. They have very quick establishment, produce high volumes of quality feed and can be used in a blend with herbs and clovers. An example of Brassicas, Rapes & Turnips stocked by Graham’s Seeds are : Hybrid Brassicas - Pasja, Hunter Turnips - Barkant, Barabas, Australian Purple Top, Appin, Marco Rapes - Winfred, Ace, Goliath, Interval CHICORY & PLANTAIN Chicory - this is a deep rooted, broad-leafed perennial herb and will provide high quality feed. With good variety selection, rotational grazing and good management, it can persist for 3 to 4 years. It is often blended with ryegrasses, clovers & other herbs. An example of chicory varieties stocked by Graham’s Seeds are: Puna II, Choice, Commander, Grouse, Chico, Balance Plantain - it is a deep rooted perennial pasture herb that grows in a wide range of soil types, is highly palatable and is often blended with ryegrasses & other herbs. An example of plantain varieties stocked by Graham’s Seeds: Tonic, Hercules GRAHAM'S SEEDS BLENDS: SUMMER FODDER PLUS Summer Fodder Plus is a blend of brassicas and millet. This Graham’s Seeds blend has been formulated to provide a large volume of feed over the summer months and ease of management ( strip-grazing ).
